About the Weekend Workshop...

Club Calisthenics and GMB, both online international bodyweight fitness methods, are excited to partner for a FIRST time collaborative workshop event focused on the development of handstands!


Club Calisthenics Programming Director Gonçalo Martins and Club Calisthenics Coach Jodie Watford are both certified GMB Instructors and are eager to share the best of both methods of training with attendees! This workshop is available for limited in-person attendees, however you can purchase a ticket and join virtually as well. 


Coaches Gonçalo and Jodie are passionate movement and strength practitioners and together they hope to help you find new ways to engage with your calisthenics journey while helping you develop confidence in your handstand! 


The Club Calisthenics fitness method emphasizes the STRENGTH and MOBILITY components necessary to achieve skills like handstands. In this workshop you’ll learn the exercises and drills necessary to gain ample strength and mobility to execute a solid upside down line! Remember: The skills you develop are a direct product of your strength!


The GMB fitness method focuses on helping you build physical freedom in your body with systematic online training programs that use your bodyweight to work towards skills like handstands. GMB trainers learn how to help people like you achieve athletic movement in their homes, with minimal equipment. 


The combination of both methods are perfect for anyone interested in advancing their current handstand, or for absolute beginners that are just looking to safely develop confidence being upside down! 


Get ready to work the strength and mobility necessary to take your handstand home or anywhere around the world! 


There are two workshops available: a beginner and advanced, so regardless of where you’re currently at in your handstand journey, you’ll find tips, tricks, instruction and demonstration that you can relate to and implement into your individual workout routine or practice.

*Prerequisite: Note that because this workshop is catered to those already comfortable in a handstand, we recommend a freestanding handstand for this workshop. However, if you’d like to join in the spirit of learning and don’t yet have a freestanding handstand, feel free to join anyway.


Why We Teach This Workshop

Once you master your freestanding handstand, a natural progression is to start practicing shapes while being inverted. This requires a certain level of body awareness and strength in order to control the transition between different positions while being upside down. Building confidence and consistency in movement while learning to stabilize your handstand is a stepping stone to obtaining more advanced handstand skills. 


What Will Attendees Learn?

Participants will learn how to connect different handstand shapes and ultimately create their own handstand flows. They will learn a variety of progressions for entering into various handstand shapes and also learn to master the transition between shapes. We will focus on the body awareness, mobility and strength needed to improve handstand shapes and flows. Participants will leave with the tools needed to program their own handstand training using GMB’s 5P’s of programming methodology.

Why We Teach This Workshop

The handstand is one of the most sought-after skills in gymnastics and bodyweight training. It is also the base for a lot of other floor skills. It's a pretty fun skill to train as well! The GMB approach to training handstands is simple and effective. Whether participants have never been upside down or already have a freestanding handstand, there is always something to work on. The handstand is a skill that can continually be refined as one improves their strength, flexibility and control.


What Will Attendees Learn?

Participants will learn the fundamentals for the handstand and how to apply them to their training. They will learn proper alignment, and how to improve their alignment over time. They will learn how to get into and out of a handstand safely, whether at the wall or freestanding. They will learn mobility work that will improve their handstand alignment, as well as strengthening exercises to improve their endurance. Participants will learn how to program for handstand training using GMB 5Ps.

Gonçalo Martins 


Gonçalo is a certified GMB instructor and the Programming Director and Head Coach at Club Calisthenics with a background in engineering. He spends his time learning about biomechanics as it applies to strength training and encourages others to have patience and fun while training. He believes there is no need to sacrifice the body for instantaneous results.

Jodie Watford 

Jodie is a certified GMB instructor, coach at Club Calisthenics, and has loved gymnastics for as long as she can remember. An I/O Psychologist by trade, gymnastics has always been her passion. She loves the feeling of accomplishment inspired by gaining a new skill and hopes to help foster that same feeling in her students by helping them achieve their personal goals. Southern-bred and Denver bound, she’s been doing handstands and cartwheels at every stop along the way.
